My five year old son has high functioning autism and his doctor prescribed Celexa to help with his anxiety. After taking the medicine for 15 days he began exhibiting very dangerous behavior so then they put him on Zoloft and now the same things are happening. He is climbing the railings of staircases, climbing to the window sills of the upstair windows of our house, running out our house and down the street, etc. Now they're suggesting we try Risperdal! I don't know what to do and am considering forgetting about medicines alltogether! I have been reading about all the possible side effescts and it is really scaring me? Does anyone have any info about this Risperdal? |

I was also wondering if anyone else has a child who is behaving in a dangerous manner with or without meds? My son has always done these types of things however the meds seem to take make it extreme! |

I was actually wondering the same thing with medication. My nephew is twelve and has never been on any medication. He has been displaying aggressive behaviors. Today was his first day on risperdal. Does anyone have any experience with this medication? We are concerned about the side effects, but also know he needs some medication to help his aggressive behaviors. |

My eight year old son has high functioning autism, but he is very aggressive. He has been on Resperidal for about a year now and he is doing well on the medication. We actually tried to take him off of resperidal about 2 months ago, but the aggression was so bad I was afraid he would seriously injure himself or someone else. I have been looking for another medication that works as well as this one. At this point I am weighing my options as to the side-effects and the good it is doing him for now. I really don't know what to do. |

I have 12 years autistic son having all symptoms of autism except aggression. He has not taken any medication and I have resigned from my job just to help him. I have to teach him every thing even to the toilet. Any suggestion for medicine ? At the moment he behaves as 6 years old.
thank you |

My daughter is 7 and has autism. She took Risperdale from age 5 to 61/2. It worked well (did cause some incontinence). We stopped due to the possible long term side effects. After visiting with the neurologist, he recommended she try adderall due to her inability to focus. The adderall increased her autism tics. We tried stratterra and it worked well for a week. Then came the terrible aggression and anger issues that we had not ever seen. We are now trying Depakote. I hope it works because I don't think I am willing to try any other medications. |
