Just to pass this along, I found out from my regional center service coordinator that a new center is opening in Alhambra for DIR, child-centered services. The center is based on Play Therapy and will provide Greenspan's Floortime and possibly Social Skills Groups. I'm in Arcadia, but Alhambra's not too far a drive. So for other parents who can't find a Floortime Agency this may be a good thing to look into.

I've received alot of e-mails with questions about the center and the services they provide, so I thought I'd pass along some info. I tried to take their brochure and scan it. You won't get a full appreciation for the center unless you visit it in person or see the pictures on the brochure.

Behavioral Programs / ABA Programs - CBC offers two behavioral programs funded by Regional Center. The Regional Center Clinical Team will determine which program is most appropriate for your child’s needs.

* Behavior Management / Modification
This program assists families to address the behavioral issues that occur as a result of the child’s developmental disability. An emphasis is placed on teaching the child socially appropriate skills which in turn will reduce problem behavior. A trained behavior specialist meets in-home with the family weekly. The behavior specialist teaches the family specialized techniques that have been individually selected for each child. Families are required to practice the behavioral strategies with their child during sessions. In addition the behavior specialist also works 1:1 with the child for brief periods, to model appropriate ways of responding to problem behavior and teaching new skills. Behavior Management is designed to be a short-term service, depending on the needs of the child and family. Services are generally provided for 9 months to 2 years.

* Discrete Trial (DTT) / Intensive ABA
This program was designed for children under 5 years with a diagnosis of Autism and severe skill deficits. It is a very intensive, highly structured approach that is based on research conducted by Dr. Lovaas. Discrete Trial uses Applied Behavior Analysis techniques and combines them with a specialized teaching approach and curriculum. A team of therapists are assigned to work with the child in-home for several hours every weekday for 1 to 2 years. Progress is closely monitored through data collection. (Note- Children with moderate-to-severe behavior problems are not appropriate candidates for DTT, as our program exclusively targets adaptive skill development.)

Play & Social Skills / Floortime
CBC is pleased to offer a center-based Play and Social Skills Program that is funded by Regional Center. Our clinic features several play therapy rooms with sensory-motor equipment and socio-dramatic toys that will appeal to children ages 2-8 years. Our therapists are specially trained to use Floortime as a method for improving a child’s play and social skills. We feature a 1 child :1 therapist ratio to ensure that every child receives individualized attention. Our Floortime Program will help children play, socialize, and meaningfully connect with others. Children receive Floortime at our Play and Social Skills Center 1 to 2 times per week as needed. Call today to refer your child!

I don't know if anyone has spelled out that CBC bought out Familias First. As far as I know this is still the same staff of Familias First. The address provided is the Familias First offices in Alhambra.
