Hi everybody,
I have just started my new job as a TA2 in a special school and i am doing a course on ASD and need to set 1/2 goals and interventions. One sentence for each goal and either a list of 2/3 strategies or 1/2 sentences for interventions.
In my class there is a pupil who is obsessed with tipping boxes, as well as throwing objects on the floor... I thought to set my 2 goals on stopping her to do so, but I don't know what strategies and interventions to use.
Can you please help me? I need to finish that in a week time.
Thank you and best regards
Imogen
Tips for Educators for Starting the Year off Right

Tips for starting off the school year:
1. Be sure to get to work early if you can to read through all of the IEPs for each of your students (this takes about 1 hour). You will need to know their services, their objectives, their behavior plans and any accommodations the student may need. It sometimes helps to copy the behavior plans for all members of your classroom team.

2. Make a data sheet for each objective. Identify which objective will be placed in the student's work bin. Use ziplock baggies and write the objective on each baggie. Then place the materials for the objective in the bag. for other objectives, not placed in student work bins, place them in a folder or in the area where the data will be taken,

3. Make a weekly schedule which has consistent activities in the same order each day. Be sure to include centers in the morning hours of the schedule. Be sure to include bathroom breaks for the students in the schedule. Request to have Specials in the afternoon.

3.Set up the classroom with clear physical boundaries and distinct areas for the students, Be sure to include (at least) an independent work station for EACH student, one large group area, a play area with a table (for structured games), a sensory area, a transition area, personal schedules for students, a circle time area.

independent work station for EACH student,
<A href="http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://ex.susd.org/smcclure/independent%2520work%2520pv.jpg&imgrefurl=http://ex.susd.org/smcclure/classroom.htm&usg=__XAEwwRI7l5EF6DiCfXXJtw8RYu8=&h=151&w=202&sz=5&hl=en&start=17&um=1&tbnid=dDRlVbhN7SJFDM:&tbnh=78&tbnw=105&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dautism%2Bclassroom%2Bwork%2Bstations%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG%26um%3D1"
Verbal Behavior classroom

I have taught children with Autism in a public school for three years, ranging in ages of 5-8. I have followed the TEACCH program in school and used ABA in my home programs. This fall I am teaching a preschool EI class with 3 and 4 year olds using the Verbal Behavior approach. This is new to me, no training, so please share with me if anyone has any great ideas/suggestions on classroom set up, data collection, managing 5 aides, must have or must know information specific to Verbal behavior!

NEED ADVICE: Unsuitable placement for students with Autism!

Hi All,

I am the Intermediate Autistic Support teacher at an Elementary

School. My students ages range from 7 yrs-10yrs old. I was recently

reassigned to another room in the building,

and I am not sure if the space is appropriate for my students or fully

equipped for the program. My current room is

very spacious and includes a bathroom and a kitchen area. I have 2 students

in my class whose IEP's support them

being toilet trained. Currently, we are able to properly and easily toilet

train the students in the comfort of our own

class. Our toilet training program was specially designed by Bancroft for

each of the students. It schedules them to

be on the toilet every 15 minutes. The new room placement does not have a

bathroom, and my students will have to

share the bathroom with 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students, and also travel

to the location. This will be very hard to

conduct without an in class bathroom. The kitchen area in my current class

enables my students to eat lunch in

class, and also allows the students to engage in their life skills goals

like washing dishes, preparing short meals, and

setting a table, all goals in my students IEP's. The new room does not have

a kitchen, and now my students will have

to eat lunch in the cafeteria, and will not be able to engage in some of

their life skill goals. I worry that the busyness

in the cafeteria will affect my students sensitivity to noise and over

stimulation. My class is also a participant in the

STAR Program, and each student has their own designated area in the class

for their trials. The new room is very

confined and will cause for a lot of rearranging in the STAR program.

I truly apologize for my long message, I am just very concerned and was

wondering if there was anything that could

be done about the room reassignment. Please respond!!!!!

Hi, my name is Jana and I have a 6yr old daughter who was recently diagnosed with Autism. She has struggled for the past 3-4 yrs with allergies. With her recent diagnosis, I'm beginning to think that there is a connection there. Her current Dr. knows little about Autism. I found a new Dr, an DO, and I am hopeful that she will be more open to work with us. I have an appointment with my daughter on Friday. I know I need to ask for a blood allergy test, check for vitamin/mineral deficiencies, check for high toxic level - but I don't know what to ask for specifically. Any advice?!?!
Dear Parents
I think we have found a new way to get the son or Daughter to learn .this all happened when I was teaching Choir and we had a young man who had needs .I remember that we gave lesson,s to each child in about three weeks the women and Doctor ask the Mother and Father what have you done your son is doing better and he can sing and remember so much better .the Parent,s were to say we just put our son in choir and he has three teacher,s who let him be like all other youth .the Doctor was to ask is he doing any thing that makes him learn any thing ,the Father said well yes he is learning to do a play and has a part in it but he never let,s the computer get turned off he just;listen,s to the music and sing,s the words as well as remembers the notes and words by heart .this youth has made quite a large jump in life with listening to music even school is made to be a rhythm like and he is always happy and loves the song,s and words we give for garnet .Do you think we have found the breaker to this disease?
